Artist Biography

Mike (“Captain”) Porter was born and raised in Marblehead, Massachusetts. His passion for landscape photography flourished through working and residing in Marblehead for most of his life. Mike recently retired from the Marblehead Fire Department after 32 years of service, first as a firefighter, then as Lieutenant, and most recently as Captain in the Fire Prevention Division. He is a devoted father and grandfather.

Mike currently resides in South Tamworth, New Hampshire; however, it is evidenced through his beautiful photographs that he has the spirit of a true ‘Header.

  • 2013 Sandwich Fair, Sandwich, New Hampshire, 5 images submitted, 7 ribbons won including Judge’s Favorite and The George Clark Award (for best overall exhibitor)

  • 2013 Helen Bumpus Gallery, Duxbury, MA: featured Artist

  • 2012 Marblehead Arts Association, has won multiple ribbons including “Zero to Ninety” Exhibit Award for “Under the Pier”

  • 2012 Marblehead Festival of Arts winner, “Best of Show” for “Serenity”

  • 2011 Marblehead Arts Festival, “Outstanding Work Award” for his photo, “Reflective Barges”

  • 2011 The Virginia Carten Gallery at the Marblehead Public Library: featured Artist

  • Greater Lynn Photographic Association – multiple ribbon winner

     

Artist’s Statement

“I enjoy taking the time to find the beauty that surrounds us and offer it to you. Every day holds the promise of a special moment. What inspires me is the challenge to capture that one serene moment in a photograph and share it with everyone. My love of the outdoors and the accompanying seasonal changes are the inspiration for all of my work. Nature provides us with countless visual opportunities each day; each day is a new palette.”
